Lone Design Club's founder Rebecca Morter is joined by co-founder Sophie Slater of activist, dress in protest womenswear brand, Birdsong.

Sophie shares her journey and thoughts in starting one of the most iconic sustainable and ethical brands of our time. From the early days of being scouted to model, witnessing first hand the industries flaws, unethical and unsustainable practices - particularly surrounding women's rights - and ultimately the dire need for a better way of doing business that would be good for both people and planet. Birdsong is fast on its path to becoming the blueprint for how fashion business should be done.

Creating clothing for women who dress in protest – against the fast nature of the fashion industry, the obsessive pursuit of trends and the systematic abuse of women in the production line. Dreaming up designs in house, working with expert makers who face barriers to employment in the UK – from artists and printmakers to seamstresses and painters – and pay them London living wage to bring the creations to life.

Ganor Dominic first joined Lone Design Club back in 2019 and has since been an LDC favourite - if you can't tell from the podcast, we love the signature faces that make an appearance on every pair of Ganor Dominic shoes!

In this week's podcast, Anna takes us back to her early days as a student, obsessed with art and sculpture. Her eponymous footwear brand became her creative outlet, with every part of the process ethically crafted in Italy. Anna talks us through her views and approach on Sustainability and how Ganor Dominic is championing young student designers to help more creatives thrive in business.

2020 was the year no one saw coming. 2021 will be the year that shapes us.

To introduce the LDC podcast we are kicking off with an episode dedicated to our story, our journey, values and mission. Founder and CEO Rebecca, is joined by LDC's COO Alice Mcanulty and Head of Digital Kathryn Oliva as they discuss the past, present and future for independent brands, sustainability, fashion, and retail as we know it.

Whilst 2020 was not the year any of us had planned, LDC's international expansion cut short, let alone all physical activities accounting for about 85% of our business pre-covid were paused and no option but do what we had anticipated would take about 3-5 years: digitise the entire business! It’s been a year of ups and downs, but, we are optimistic about the future. Small independent brands have seen huge successes, sustainability is slowly finding its place within our day to day lives, digital selling via live stream is on the rise, we are innovating with out tech enabled window shops, and most importantly, deepening how we tell stories and create experiences online. All of which we will delve into in this podcast. Join us as we kick off our new series - Sharing Stories, The LDC Podcast.

The relationship, conversation and experience between designers and shoppers in our stores was always so special to us, and with this new digital era we move into, we wanted to bring these designer stories to you, anywhere in the world. Our hopes are that by meeting the brands, hearing their stories and journeys, we will all be empowered to shop small, shop sustainable - buy less, but choose well.
